Filter user data in Timetonic by the user identifier.
In this video,
we will see how to display a single dashboard for tracking to multiple people, without showing each one data that doesn't concern them.
Technicians will only see the interventions that concern them.
From a single shared dashboard,
only one dashboard needs to be created and each person remains within their scope.
There is only one prerequisite.
In your workspace,
in the table of prepared data for export to the Metabase database,
insert the column that contains the user identifier in each row.
For example,
here,
the identifier of a technician assigned to an intervention.
The column will be exported to Metabase,
along with the rest of your data,
and it will be used to apply the filter in your dashboard.
Return to the dashboard on Metabase.
Click on Edit Dashboard.
Add a new filter with the icon Filter.
Select Text or Category.
Name the filter.
Filter by the operator and select Then,
branch to the column of identifier for each graph.
Next,
apply a simple configuration,
fields of entry and simple value.
Leave the rest as default.
Save.
Since it will be automatically filled with the user identifier of the person connected in the Timetonic workspace,
the user will never have to choose it himself.
Save.
Next,
we will lock the filter.
Click on Share.
Click on Embed.
In the parameters,
set the user identifier filter to "Locked".
This makes it unchangeable.
A user can't change the value to view data that doesn't concern him.
However, other filters, such as a period, can remain modifiable.
Next,
click on Publish.
Go to the navigation bar,
copy the URL,
Return to our Timetonic workspace,
add a module Dashboard,
name the Dashboard,
paste your URL link,
and check the box for "Send Timetonic user code to Metabase."
Without this box,
the dashboard would appear without filtering.
Since our dashboard has multiple filters,
we indicate which receives the user code.
Therefore,
we choose the user code and save.
And there you have it,
you now have a view of the dashboard filtered by the user identifier in your workspace.
The URL has integrated the filter on the available data over the past 30 days.
Therefore,
the filter is fixed directly in the URL.
The user doesn't have direct access to this filter data.
It is set by default to 30 days.
If you only want to provide the parameter URL without the date filter,
you can copy the URL at the question mark.
For example,
I copy the URL,
I return to my workspace,
I edit,
I copy the URL without the date parameters.
And here,
the user has the ability to modify the date ranges.
To demonstrate,
let's go to another member space with another user identifier to make sure the user only sees data that concerns him since the other user did not have access to the tracking data for the type of intervention.
We can observe that the fact of locking the user identifier filter gives us a dashboard with no ability for the user to modify the user filter,
ensuring the security of data visibility for each user.
Last security option.
Go to your database if you do not want to display your user identifier.
In the Edit option,
click on the data field of your database to see the list of columns.
Uncheck the box for the column you don't want to show in your database.
This ensures that the data disappears from the technical response.
If you share a view of the database in your dashboard,
this column,
will not appear.
The filtering,
continues to work,
but the column,
completely disappears.
You save.
And this ensures securing your data.
And that's it,
you now know how to share a dashboard while guaranteeing the confidentiality of each user's data.
Until next time.
